There Are No Boundaries

Written by John Paul Jackson
There Are No Boundaries

When it is time, God’s word will come to pass. It does not matter what has opposed you and stood in your way—when God decides it is time, He can make that thing move. He can change your circumstances in a twinkling.

Your circumstances do not have to be your boundaries. They do not have to be the ceiling or the floor of your accomplishments. The Bible is filled with stories of people who understood God’s nature and strength, and because of that, they took a stand and defied what the world told them was true. They did not listen when their circumstances sneered at them and said, “This is the way it has to be. You have lost.” When the road turned dark and difficult all around them, they let go of the opportunity for bitterness and looked to God’s grace and forgiveness instead.

Joseph was not scheduled for greatness by his brothers, but even when he was in prison, he knew his circumstances were going to change. He knew God had a plan, and because he knew God had a plan, he recognized that he had an opportunity, even in that place of shame and darkness. He set his face toward the future.

Joseph had been imprisoned for something he did not do. He was an innocent man; by natural standards, he had every right to become bitter. But he did not allow bitterness to take root within him, and he refused to believe what his circumstances told him. He refused to let go of hope. In the midst of everything he suffered, Joseph found an inner strength to rise above his setbacks. He chose to take God at His word and became fully convinced of a future that his current circumstances told him could not happen.

You create your life with every choice you make. Right off the bat, Joseph sought to do in the prison what he had done for his former master. Genesis 39:23 declares, “The keeper of the prison did not look into anything that was under Joseph’s authority, because the Lord was with him; and whatever he did, the Lord made it prosper.” Joseph refused to let his circumstances dictate his future.

How Do You Respond to Setbacks?

What do you do when your circumstances hand you the opportunity to become bitter? Like Joseph, your family and peers may not consider you to be anything special. You may struggle beneath years of rejection and mockery. You may be facing all sorts of setbacks that are out of your control—circumstances that seem like they are trying to kill you. What will be your response to these things?

The enemy will try to make your life difficult. He will try to stop you, but champions of God know how insignificant those attempts really are. The enemy is a weaker entity trying to stop the omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, immutable Deity who moves through you—the enemy is not going to win.

God’s ways are perfect, and they are truly awesome. When you are aligned with Him, the possibilities are endless. The circumstances of your life have no power to dictate your future, not with God.
